, above, is seeking to withdraw from a celebrity-filled campaign to draw attention to the BP oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico amid questions about the corporate sponsorship of the group behind the campaign. Ms. Bullock, a New Orleans resident, is among the celebrities who appear in “Be the One,” a video that describes the oil spill’s national implications. A credit at the end of the video says it is presented by Women of the Storm, and among the partners listed at the campaign’s Web site, restorethegulf.com, is the America’s Wetland Foundation. Prompted by a report by The that said Women of the Storm and the foundation were financed by oil companies, including BP, Shell, ExxonMobil, Citgo and Chevron, Ms. Bullock said she would seek to be removed from the campaign. In a statement reported by the Web site ThinkProgress.org, a publicist for Ms. Bullock wrote: “At no time was she made aware that any organization, oil company or otherwise had influence over Women of the Storm or its message. We have immediately asked for her participation in the P.S.A. be removed until the facts can be determined.” Officials for the America’s Wetland Foundation told The Huffington Post that the contributions it received from the oil companies were for scientific and ecological research.
