Daniel Radcliffe has been confirmed as a cast member in All Quiet on the Western Front, which was written by Ian Stokell and Lesley Paterson.

According to Variety, the Harry Potter star will play the role of Paul Baumer. The book, which was written by Eric Maria Remarques, is about Paul, a German soldier who served during World War 1.

Stokell believes that Radcliffe was perfect for the role of Paul. “Daniel brings a vulnerability and innocence to Paul. When we realized how much he loved the script we were really excited because we know he can tap into the delicate balance between intensity and believability that is critical for this demanding role.”

The book has been adapted for movies, TV and radio before. In 1930, Lewis Mileston’s version won the Oscar for Best Picture.

The star has just finished filming Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. He will appear on Broadway in How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying.

Filming on All Quiet on the Western Front will start in 2012.
