For most movies, a $37.1 million weekend opening would be cause for celebration, but Sex and the City 2 isn’t like most movies.
The sequel to the 2008 blockbuster (itself a sequel to the TV Series) was expected to open at $10 to $15 million more than that.
What’s worse, the take declined each day as the weekend went on. That’s not a good sign for Sarah Jessica Parker and her on-screen BFFs Kim Cattrall, Cynthia Nixon and Kristin Davis.
The movie had not been well-reviewed but it was assumed that its loyal fans would carry the day, but bad word-of-mouth seems to be carrying more weight.
SATC 2 came in – OUCH! - third for the weekend, following Shrek Forever After and the equally disappointing Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time.
