Twi-hards have been thrown some juicy bones this week and they are chewing like crazy.
Tuesday, the poster for “Eclipse,” the third installment in the “Twilight” saga, bled onto the internet featuring Bella Swan standing front and center.
Star Kristen Stewart sizes up her audience as Robert Pattinson’s Edward Cullen and Taylor Lautner’s Jacob Black are relegated to the background.
“Twilight” promos for the first film and “New Moon” had Bella sharing space with her vampire cohorts and werewolf Jacob. But in Stephenie Meyer’s third novel, the broody heroine is more or less betrothed to her vampire lover.
More importantly, the Volturi are on their way to claim her soul as Edward refuses to turn her into a blood-sucker. ”Eclipse” is all about the Bella of the ball.
The poster comes hot on the heels of a clip from ”Eclipse,” which is slated for release June 30, in which Edward and Bella lie in bed discussing her possible future as a pale face.
“New Moon” appears to be benifiting from the renewed “Twilight” publicity.
Summit reportedly sold 4 million “New Moon” DVDs over the weekend, eclipsing the first film in the series, which only pushed 3.8 million units its first weekend.
By the end of 2009, Summit sold 9.2 million “Twilight” DVDs making it the best-selling DVD that year.
“Twilight’s” production company built up national buzz by scheduling midnight launches at retail outlets, viewing parties and cast meet-and-greets.
The strategy paid dividends despite director Chris Weitz’s recent admission that he lied about extra scenes on the DVD.
