Kate Winslet and director Sam Mendes split after nearly seven years of marriage.
Oscar-winning actress Kate Winslet’s marriage has hit an iceberg.
The “Titanic” star and director Sam Mendes are splitting after nearly seven years of marriage, a British law firm announced Monday.
The couple lives in Chelsea and their split is “entirely amicable and is by mutual agreement,” the London-based Schillings firm said in a statement.
Winslet married Mendes, the Oscar-winning film director of “American Beauty” in 2003. It was her second marriage. The couple has a son named Joe, who was born in New York in 2003.
Winslet, 34, also has a 9-year-old daughter named Mia by her first husband, director James Threapleton. She won an Academy Award in 2008 for her performance in “The Reader.”
Winslet and Mendes, 44, were born in the same British hospital, but 10 years apart.
“My husband is so brilliant, and he is an excellent dad,” Winslet said in a recent interview. “He is quite domesticated. I’ve got him trained.”
The couple met in 2001 when Mendes tried to cast Winslet in a play. They went public with their relationship in November 2001 and tied the knot two years later.
Mendes directed his wife in the movie “Revolutionary Road,” which also reunited her with “Titanic” co-star, Leonardo DiCaprio.
