A year after he appeared on “Late Night with David Letterman” bearded, unkempt, seemingly out of it and insisting he was abandoning a promising acting career to be a rap star, Joaquin Phoenix has finally resurfaced — in a Miley Cyrus video.
A clean shaven Phoenix could be seen all over the Internet Friday, in a video that also stars Cyrus and Liv Tyler, Phoenix’s ex-sweetie. The video is a public service ad for TWLOHA (short for “To Write Love on Her Arms”), a nonprofit aimed at helping teens struggling with depression, addiction and thoughts of self-injury or suicide.
The ad shows Cyrus teaching Phoenix (who pretends not to know who she is, or who Lady Gaga is) how to log on the group’s Web
site and express support for its $1 million grant application. Later, Phoenix flubs at trying to teach Tyler how to do the same thing, bringing Cyrus back into the action. Cyrus has been campaigning for the group for the past week.It was a year ago that Phoenix, having just starred in two well-received movies, shocked fans and Hollywood insiders with a series of bizarre public appearances in which he claimed he was quitting movies to be a rapper. The new ads offer no indication of what Phoenix has planned form 2010.

I hope he is okay. He did seem to be off balance for some time and then he disappeared from the public eye. Well maybe it’s a sign he is coming back. I hope he does because he is an excellent actor.

Joaquin certainly looks very different from his bearded rapstar image!
Excellent actor, welcome back.
