Actor Johnny Depp has picked up an award for his life’s work at the Bahamas International Film Festival.
The Oscar-nominated star was presented with a wooden fish statuette by former Bond star Sir Sean Connery in the capital Nassau.
Depp, who has a home in the Bahamas, said he is “a little stupefied by the notion” of winning awards.
“The first thing I say is ‘why?’ I just go to work like anyone else, except my job is a little stranger,” added Depp.
The screen actor, who is expected to reprise his role as Captain Jack Sparrow in a new Pirates of The Caribbean film in 2011, also said: “I’m still amazed I get jobs after all this time.”
The film festival’s director, Leslie Vanderpool, said Depp is an acting “icon”.
“What makes this tribute to Johnny even more special is that he has a home in the Bahamas and possesses a true love and appreciation for the region and culture,” she said.
The 46-year-old revealed that he would be spending Christmas on his private Bahamian island.
“This place is as close to paradise as anywhere you can get,” he said.
