Pop star Britney Spears’ ex-boyfriend has been sentenced to 45 days in jail for a hit-and-run incident earlier this year in which he hit a process server, according to multiple tabloid reports.
Adnan Ghalib, who briefly dated Spears at the height of her career meltdown, was sentenced Friday after he allegedly ran over a man attempting to serve him a restraining order, and then leaving the scene of the accident that occurred earlier this year in February.
Ghalib gets jail time
On Friday, Van Nuys Superior Court Judge Susan Speer sentenced the 37-year-old celebrity photographer to 45 days in jail for his involvement in Feb. 11 accident, in which he hit a process server as he tried to hand him legal papers at his Encino apartment. The restraining order was obtained by Spears’ father.
Ghalib has already spent one day behind bars and now has to serve the remaining 44 days of his sentence.
Besides the jail time, Ghalib was also ordered to complete a 52-week anger management program as well as to perform 45 days of community service by the judge.
February accident
Los Angeles prosecutors alleged that in February, Ghalib got into his Mercedes and drove toward the official who jumped on the car’s hood and then fell off. Ghalib then drove off after the incident, they said.
The accident reportedly left the official, named Ram Moskowitz, with broken wrist and other injuries.
The celebrity tabloids photographer pleaded no contest to leaving the accident scene, and agreed to a plea deal in order to avoid deportation. Ghalib was initially charged with assault with deadly weapon, battery and hit-and-run, but the first two counts were dismissed as part of the plea deal.
Ghalib was ordered to keep distance from Spears and her family until 2012.
Spears, Ghalib– an item once
The 27-year-old pop diva and Ghalib became an item in December 2007 when Spears’ private and public life were deteriorated following her divorce, stints in rehab, and a notorious head shaving incident.
In order to save her daughter’s life and career, the singer’s father intervened and later was given control of her business and personal affairs by the Los Angeles courts in January 2008.
