Singer Britney Spears has gone straight to number one in the US chart with her latest single 3.

She is the first artist to debut at the top of the Hot 100 chart in more than three years, according to Billboard.

“I am truly blessed with the greatest fans in the world and I am so happy y’all love it because I do this all for you,” the star told fans.

The track is the only new song included on her new greatest hits CD, which is due for release next month.

‘Britney classic’

The song was produced by Max Martin, who has previously written tracks for Britney including Baby One More Time, Oops!… I Did It Again and Stronger.

The song was given four stars by Rolling Stone magazine, who called it an “instant Britney classic.”

According to Billboard, Britney is the first artist outside of American Idol contestants to go straight to the number one spot since Lauryn Hill’s Doo Wop (That Thing) in 1998.

Her last single If You Seek Amy only reached number 19 in the US and number 20 in the UK.

Britney has had five number one singles in the UK.

She is currently on tour, promoting her comeback album The Circus.
