Quentin Tarantino has quite a long history with “American Idol.” And the “Inglourious Basterds” director, who appeared as a guest judge in season three and mentored the contestants last season, is pretty upset that Paula Abdul has decided to leave the show after eight seasons.

“I feel bad about Paula leaving,” Quentin told “Access Hollywood” at the premiere of “Basterds.” “I really liked her on the show.”

A longtime “Idol” fan, Tarantino added that he knew that sooner or later one of the show’s original judges would have to go their own way. “I figured at some point, one of the three would break off,” he said. “But you know, it’s sad. It’s disappointing. I will miss her next year for sure.”

Earlier this year, Quentin’s friend Eli Roth, who also has a role in “Inglourious Basterds,” spoke to MTV News about how Tarantino’s love of “Idol” would pervade the set of the movie.

“He loves it,” Roth said. “I have nothing against ‘American Idol,’ I’m just not into ‘American Idol.’ Quentin loves ‘American Idol’ and ‘American Idol’ discussions broke out [on the set of 'Basterds'] with him and [actors] Samm Levine and Diane Kruger. They were so detailed in their critique of every single singer. … I was like, ‘I have no idea.’ I had no idea he was that into ‘American Idol.’ “
