Speculation started hitting the Internet on Tuesday that Joe Jonas would be a guest judge on “American Idol” this season. Now the middle Jonas has been confirmed as one of the stars temporarily filling the spot left by Paula Abdul, who quit the show earlier this summer.
A rep for the singer confirmed the news to People magazine, which reports that Jonas will sit alongside Simon Cowell, Kara DioGuardi and Randy Jackson when the show stops in Dallas on Monday.
Meanwhile, Us Weekly reported that Kelly Clarkson’s rep said the season-one winner won’t be judging on the show anytime soon.
Jonas, who performed on the “Idol” with his brothers in 2008, joins the ranks of celebrity judges that so far has included Victoria “Posh Spice” Beckham, Mary J. Blige, Katy Perry and Shania Twain.
This is the second project that the 19-year-old Jonas Brother has been attached to without his two superstar siblings. Joe is rumored to have a part in the upcoming romantic comedy “Valentine’s Day,” which will star a slew of Hollywood A-listers including Taylor Lautner of “Twilight” and Jonas’ ex, Taylor Swift.
For now, though, Joe and his brothers are busy on the road in support of their album Lines, Vines and Trying Times. The North American tour wraps up at the end of the month, then they head off to Europe for the second leg. The guys will also be busy filming the sequel to their successful flick “Camp Rock.”
