Over this past weekend at the MTV Movie Awards Sasha Baron Cohen playing Bruno made a wild entrance and ended up landing his bottom in the face of Eminem. After a scuffle with Eminem’s body guards Eminem walked out in disgust. We can only imagine what will follow between Eminem and Cohen. YouTube posters immediately posted clips of this outrageous clip and it became viral instantly.

Who is Sasha Baron Cohen?

The British-Jewish Sasha Baron Cohen is one of the most brilliant comics of our time. Before staring in his own film, Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan, Cohen had already developed the fictional characters Ali G, Borat and eventually Bruno on both FTF and the BBC Two’s in the United Kingdom.

Who is Bruno?

Bruno is one of Cohen’s most exotic, off-the-wall and “different, but that’s ok” characters, playing a flamboyant gay Austrial fashion journalist. Until his entrance into the MTV Movie Awards he was little known by the world and mostly known by hardcore Sasha Baron Cohen fans. He talks with a funny German accent and does staged interviews with non-suspecting interviees. As a comic genius and similar to the Ali G and Borat characters through Bruno’s character he gets his often right-wing and conservative interviewees to make offensive remarks against homosexuals and Jews.

So, what was thing weekend’s MTV scharade all about?

Coming in July in a theater near you the Cohen and Universal Pictures will release the film Bruno. There have been multiple sightings of Bruno at public events over the past few years. I have read about a few of them on the Internet. I imagine that clips from these events will be used in the movie. I don’t want to write about them here because I don’t want to spoil the movie for you!

Cohen is a genius comic in my view

Anyways, I believe Bruno’s appearance and stunt with Eminem at the MTV Music Awards was yet another one of Cohen’s genius comic marketing maneuvers. By entering the auditorium as a flying angle announcing “Ich Bin Bruno” then landing his bottom right square Eminem’s face with his bottom showed an extremely high level of creativity on Cohen’s part.
