Robin Givens, the actress best known for her role in the classic film “Boomerang,” has been sued by the IRS for unpaid taxes that date as far back as 1996.
The 44 year-old-former wife of Mike Tyson was under investigation by the U.S. government, who claims Givens owes $292,000 of unpaid federal taxes, interest and penalties, reports Forbes.com. The actress’ charges include failure to pay, underpayment of estimated taxes, and late filing.
In the lawsuit, federal tax agents asked the federal court in Tampa, Florida to enter a formal judgment against Givens on 39 separate debts during the year of 2007. The measure makes it less complicated for the IRS to garnish her wages and levy her assets in efforts to collect the debt.
The government’s petition states Givens resided in Bradenton, Florida just outside of Tampa. Media reports show that one of her two children went to school in Bradenton, while conflicting reports say she lives between New York and Florida.
Darryl Marshak, the actress’ L.A. agent, confirmed Givens used the Bradenton address but refused to comment on the lawsuit. A formal answer has yet to be filed in the court on Givens behalf.
Givens in no stranger to issues involving taxes, as public records show several tax liens against her over the years in New York,
Florida and California. The liens are speculated to be part of a new lawsuit against her. In some cases, the liens on her home and assets have been released which indicates a payment was made.
