The police in Mumbai said they had not found evidence that the father of a child actor from the movie “Slumdog Millionaire” had tried to offer her for adoption in exchange for money, Reuters reported. Indian authorities had been investigating whether Rafiq Qureshi, the father of 9-year-old Rubina Ali Qureshi, had tried to offer his daughter for adoption for around $290,000 to reporters from News of the World in Britain, who were posing as a wealthy family from Dubai. Rubina Ali played the young version of the “Slumdog Millionaire” character portrayed by Freida Pinto. Rubina Ali’s mother had called for the investigation of Mr. Qureshi when News of the World published the results of its sting operation on Sunday. Mr. Qureshi, who lives with his daughter and her stepmother in a Mumbai slum, was questioned by the police and released.
