Olympic swimmer Michael Phelps says he is not dating controversial Miss USA runner-up Carrie Prejean – contrary to comments made by the pageant beauty’s grandmother earlier this week.
“I’m not dating anybody. I’m single. My private life stays private,” he said in an interview with Usmagazine.com.
Prejean – who caused a stir with her anti-gay marriage comments during the contest – told skirted questions regarding her love life when asked by pageant host Billy Bush whether she was dating the famous swimmer.
“That’s not appropriate to answer right now. He’s a great man…You can call me on a later day and we can talk about that,” she said.
Prejean’s grandmother Jeanette Coppolla said earlier this week that the pair are an item, according to RadarOnline.com.
“Carrie and Michael have been out to baseball games and lunch. He always calls her when he is in town and they go out,” she said.
Hmmm. Clearly, Phelps didn’t get the memo that he’s part of couple.
When asked about his response to Prejean’s comments on gay marriage during the competition and later on morning talk shows, he said: “I’m not saying I support her … I’m not saying I don’t support her.”
