Hollywood has always been known for being a little bit more liberal and thinking outside the box, but recently being an outsider it seems like celebrities have been neglecting the fact that they are role models. With our young celebrities getting multiple DUI's, getting arrested, getting pregnant at young ages and not married, and basically forgetting to wear clothes one would think that they would try to present themselves better in their professional life and try to set a good example in movies and on TV.

On December 25, 2007 the movie Juno was released in theaters. Juno is about a high schooler who is faced with an unplanned pregnancy by a friend that she is not even dating exclusively. Instead of having an abortion she decides to give it up for adoption. The family that she has planned to give it to ends up splitting up in the end and husband comes on to Juno. In the end wife still adopts, but does it alone and Juno and the father of the baby start dating.

It would be unfair to say that mistakes don't happen, but the movie almost seems to be condoning unplanned pregnancy at a young age with its humorous and sarcastic characters. It also gives the young male audience the sense that when marriage is tough that it is something they can go back on and that they don't have any responsibility to try and make it work. Like young women and men are not exposed too enough many of the films award ceremonies even the Oscars nominated Juno, which implies that this kind of behavior is rewarded. I agree that great acting should be awarded, but I just feel that maybe Hollywood should make better attempts to set a good example for our young adults. Hopefully with the writers strike being over our writers can maybe write about characters we can admire and respect.
