According to a new report, due to her efforts to improve the lot of the refugees Hollywood actress Angelina Jolie has won ‘Freedom Award’ from the International Rescue Committee. Angelina was unable to attend the award presentation ceremony, but she sent a video message, talking also about the close partnership between UNHCR and the International Rescue Committee.
The Goodwill Ambassador Angelina Jolie shared the award with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), where she is also the ambassador. This is not the first time when the UN agency is honored by the International Rescue Committee for its work protecting refugees. In 1995, the then High Commissioner Sadako Ogata received the Freedom Award.
The Freedom Award is a symbol that we will only be able to fully enjoy our freedom when everyone else is able to enjoy theirs.
