According to the news, the Celebrity Rapper Ice Cube has slammed today’s Hip-Hop, insisting most performers are only interested in the “bling” lifestyle instead of embracing political issues. Material gain is a strong and motivating factor for each Celebrity, however Ice Cube wants to shake-up the Hip-Hop industry after expressing outrage at its commercialism. With other words: Is the current US rap scene lost direction? Are Hip-Hop/Rappers forgotten their roots? Maybe so. Ice Cupe pointed out that sex and ‘bling’ are favoured over social commentary in Hip-Hop tracks, so he will make a campaign against it and plans on releasing three records politically charged in two years.
Political rap has been pushed into the background, and rap has turned into bling party music. Groups like Public Enemy and KRS-ONE have no stage any more. I’ve been doing this 20 years – but rap is full of bravado now, and nobody wants to listen. All we’re hearing from America is booty music. If American rappers don’t step up their game, then I will. I’m planning on releasing three records in two years – each more politically charged. I’m going my own path to sway the tide. We’ve got to do whatever we can to put the music back in the hands of the people who love it.

[...] The Celebrity Rapper Xzibit decided that is time for him to take on the unofficial role of rap ambassador. Why? Well apparently Xzibit is sick of the music that glorifies the violence in lyrics but insists if the society wasn’t so terrible, the lyrics wouldn’t be so controversial. Some how he’s words reminds me of Celebrity Rapper Ice Cube, who not long ago has slammed today’s Hip-Hop, insisting most performers are only interested in the “bling” lifestyle instead of embracing political issues. Rap is a reflection of society. If society wasn’t violent, then hip-hop wouldn’t be violent. You can blame hip hop but we’re like reporters; we tell you what’s going on in the neighborhood and we tell you how it is. I don’t think hip-hop should glorify the violence. I think with hip-hop music you have to have some kind of balance. When you take someone’s life you’re gonna end up losing yours. But we can’t be like Arnold Schwarzenegger; he can kill 70 million people on the screen and still he’s a role model. But when you talk about slapping somebody, or shooting somebody on a rap tape, you are a criminal. – says Rapper Xzibit – [...]
