This year’s award ceremony Music of Black Origin Awards (MOBO) will take place at the Royal Albert Hall on Wednesday 20th September and nominations were already announced on Monday (Aug 14). The host for the evening is believed to be comedian Gina Yashere, while previous hosts have included Pharrell Williams, Left Eye, Lil Kim and LL Cool J. The MOBO’s have previously been criticized for nominating too many American acts and this year organizers were forced to create four new categories to promote UK music due to the rise in demand for UK Black music including Best UK Female and Best UK Male.

UK nominations include Kano, Sway, Plan B, Lady Sovereign and Ms Dynamite’s younger brother, Akala while US nominees include OutKast,Busta Rhymes, Kayne West, Jay Z and Pharrell Williams.

R&B celebrity Beyonce also leaded the nominations for the UK’s Music Of Black Origin (MOBO) Awards with mentions in four categories: Best International Female where the R&B singer Beyonce, Best R&B Act award, Best Song and Best Video for ‘Deja Vu’ single, featuring her hip-hop mogul fiance Jay-Z.

  1. darius says:

am so happy that an artsite from my country, Jose Chameleone was nominated for the MOBO awards. however, am quite discontented that on other websites the category of Best African Acts is clearly indicated whileon this it is not any where. i thought b;ack is basically Africa, and ma scared this exhibits some sort of ‘racism’ ,let the black shine, not only the rappers and singers from the US or UK should be indicated.
Hope to find African niminees on the list in the next few minutes

    much love from Africa
