50 Cent and Jermaine Dupri win Songwriter of the Year at ASCAP Awards

According to Reuters/Billboard, Hip-Hop celebrity 50 Cent and famous producer Jermaine Dupri took home the award songwriter of the year at ASCAP’s 19th annual Rhythm & Soul Music Awards on June 26 in Beverly Hills, Calif. Hip-Hop 50 Cent was honored for co-writing The Game’s “Hate It Or Love It” and “How We Do” and writing his own “Just A Lil Bit” and “Candy Shop” while the last hit also won ringtone of the year, while Jermaine Dupri produced and co-wrote hits for R&B celebrities Mariah Carey, Bow Wow and Usher.Other awards given were for EMI Publishing as publisher of the year, for reportedly putting out 17 of the year’s biggest urban hits, including Mario’s “Let Me Love You” and Amerie’s “One Thing.” For the third straight year, Sean Paul was named reggae artist of the year. LL Cool J was awarded the Golden Note Award while legendary soul singer Bill Withers was presented with the ASCAP Rhythm & Soul Heritage Award.
