Ludacris & Kanye West

According to the news, Hip-Hop celebrities Ludacris and Kanye West have defended themselves in a New York court against I.O.F (It’s Only Family) claims that the two stole the lyrics and style 2003 hit single Stand Up from their song Straight Like That (only playing on college radio after its release in September 2001).

While the case continues, lawyers representing the Hip-Hop stars insist they had never heard the song, saying that the songs only show only similar rhythms and the chorus “like that”, but of course nobody could claim a right to common expressions.

I.O.F lawyer said its “a constellation of similarities” telling the court, that “this song Stand Up catapulted Ludacris’s career. It was certified gold by the recording industry.”

Both Hip-Hop stars are set to testify during the trial, which is expected to last a week; Ludacris, refused to comment outside of court and Kanye West was not there for the opening day according to Post.

  1. [...] The rap group, I.O.F. ( It`s Only Family ) and its production company, BMS Entertainment/Heat Music LLC, claimed in the suit that the 2003 smash hit, ‘Stand Up,’ contained lyrics and beats identical to I.O.F.`s 2001 song, ‘Straight Like That.’ This whole experience is proof to me of why I will always fight for what I believe in. The only thoughts and ideas I borrow from are those of my own. – hip-hop celebrity Ludacris – [...]
