During this year 2006 American Latino Media Arts (ALMA) Awards – which celebrates achievements of Hispanic artists from the worlds of music, television and film – singer Marc Anthony and Oscar-nominated actor Andy Garcia were honored with special tributes. Marc Anthony received the Celia Cruz Award for Excellence in Music, being touched by the R&B singer Brian McKnight when he performed Anthony’s Grammy-nominated hit “You Sang to Me” in both English and Spanish. The Hollywood Andy Garcia took home the Anthony Quinn Award for Excellence in Motion Pictures.
Colombian celebrity Shakira, who also won the Best Spanish Album award, and reggaeton artist Daddy Yankee were named outstanding musical performers.
The ALMA Awards held Sunday at the Shrine Auditorium, will air June 5 on ABC in which awards also were given in 15 other categories.
