Celebrities like Green Day, gangsta rapper 50 Cent and Mariah Carey dominate this year’s Billboard Music Awards. With eight nominations, rapper 50 Cent, received artiste of the year and took the album of the year prize for “The Massacre”.
Green Day were named Billboard 200 Album Group Of The Year, Pop Group Of The Year and Rock Artist Of The Year, while their smash hit Boulevard Of Broken Dreams won the Rock Song Of The Year Award.
50 Cent, who did not attend the awards ceremony, also won the best R&B/Hip-Hop, Rap and Hot 100 artiste of the year titles as well as ringtone of the year award for “Candy Shop”.
Mariah Carey, who was nominated in seven categories, won five awards, being named the female Billboard 200 album artiste and female R&B/Hip-Hop artiste of the year. Her long-running No. 1 single “We Belong Together” earned her the Hot 100 song, Hot 100 airplay of the year and rhythmic top 40 title of the year awards. “American Idol” Carrie Underwood and Shakira each took home three.
No Doubt singer Gwen Stefani won the new artiste of the year award for her solo debut, “Love.Angel.Music.Baby”, while her single “Hollaback Girl” was the digital song of the year.
