David Beckham opened today his London soccer academy alongside the Millennium Domea and will be run by director of coaching Eric Harrison, youth team coach at Manchester United for 18. The academy, which has two full-size indoor pitches plus classrooms, training facilities, changing rooms and restaurants, will welcome around 15,000 boys and girls aged eight to 15 every year
This is one of the proudest moments in my life. When I was a boy attending the Bobby Charlton soccer school all I wanted to do was to play for Manchester United and England.
Now I have achieved that and to be able to give children the chance to do the same things is just amazing. I wanted an environment where children could learn but more importantly have fun. This has surpassed my highest expectations.
It is about education in football. Not just teaching youngsters how to kick a ball properly but education on diet and fitness. There are so many things the children will learn here and I am so pleased that it is here in London, the place where I was born.
