Beyonce Knowles, who appears on the cover of Vanity Fair, is the first African-American woman to appear on the cover since Tina Turner in 1993 reports Radar Magazine.
According inside publicists, Beyonce’s skin tone in the November issue of Vanity Fair is lighter, because the mag digitally altered Beyonce’s image to appear several shades lighter. It seems the idea of the magazine is lighter up the magazine and unfortunately, staffers got so carried away they ended up lightening Beyonce as well: ‘Everything on the cover is bright, including the white background, to make it seem as white as can be.’
The Vanity Fair’s spokeswoman, Beth Kseniak, insisted that Beyonce’s skin tone was “absolutely not” manipulated and said that any change was a result of lighting and makeup.
Yvette Noel-Schure, Beyonce’s personal publicist declared : ‘There are very fair-skinned black people in this world, and Beyonce is one of them.’
Vanity Fair has not featured a solo black person on its cover since the late nineties, celebrities such as Michael Jordan, Will Smith, and Chris Rock.
