Angelina Jolie has signed on to star in a big-screen adaptation of the epic English poem Beowulf which will be directed by Robert Zemeckis and it will utilize “performance-capture” technology, which transforms the actors into computer-animated versions of themselves.
An adaptation of the ancient Old English poem, which chronicled the adventures of Beowulf, it will feature Nil By Mouth star Ray Winstone in the title role, Crispin Glover as Grendel and Angelina as Grendel’s mother.
Jolie will play the queen of darkness who tempts the Viking during his quest to become king. Beowulf, which is not due out until 2007, will also feature Sir Anthony Hopkins and John Malkovich.
