Dreamworks has announced that Eddie Murphy will join Jamie Foxx and Beyonce Knowles in the cast of the upcoming film Dreamgirls. The film is an adaptation of the Tony Award-winning musical that first ran on Broadway in the early 1980′s and will be directed by Bill Condon.
The movie follows the rise of a trio of African-American women who form a group called The Dreamettes. Murphy will play James “Thunder” Early, a singer for whom the Dreamettes sing back up before taking over the spotlight themselves.
